Acievements

My first achievement in life was the founding of a non-profit organisation, followed by the holding of two fundraising marches a 75 km march in 2000 from Harare to Marondera and a bigger one that became a Global Event in  2007  a 541 km physical march from Harare to Plumtree.

My vision for the founding of DCI-Zimbabwe was to support the family mission, which helps to shape a child to become a future responsible adult and also a peace-loving member of any community of this World. I have done this by establishing and maintaining a community cluster of foster care homes and social clubs, a strategy  I use to instill Hope as well as ease the pain and suffering inflicted on all vulnerable children and youths, especially young girls.

The idea of Community Cluster Foster  Care Homes is meant to provide a home and a family to every child through the provision of opportunities for every child to enjoy a secure and healthy childhood. In this environment, strong family and human values and principles will be instilled in every child, so as to equip them to become productive citizens, who have the potential to become future leaders. This model will not only be used for child protection but will also be used to conduct parental, marriage, and family life education; this will be done through outreach, workshops, and impact seminars to make the community self-sustainable. DCI-Zimbabwe’s operating notion is teamwork; its belief is that change will not be possible by one person’s effort or by one organization’s work, but by the effort of all who are directly or indirectly affected. We believe that it is all of us individuals, non-government organizations and the government who have to come to one platform together and work to bring an equally bright smile to every child (regardless of sex, color, race, religion, nationality, political or any other discriminatory measure)  that innocent children face in Zimbabwe and the world over.

Below are some of the achievements I have helped the organization come up with.

v  Contributed to the construction of school classroom blocks at Yemurai Secondary School in Dzivarasekwa Extension in 2000.

v  Managed to advocate for the people of Epworth and stopped demolition of housing structures in 2005

v  The organization managed to assist victims of Operation Restore Order during the aftermath of the internal displacements of July 2005.

v  We have provided food and non-food items to 10 635 people in the years 2005 and 2006 in partnership with Oxfam Great Britain (Oxfam GB), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), MSF Zimbabwe, Save the Children UK (SCUK), and UNICEF respectively.

v  In Partnership with Hope for Children, we paid school fees to about 100 children in Epworth from Primary School to Secondary School from the year 2005-2008

v  2000 children from 400 households in Caledonia Farm were assisted with Hygiene kits, Recreational kits, and Primary Care Giver kits in 2007.

v  The organization has around 12000 + beneficiaries from its area of operations.

v  Today the organisation is a member of the Child Rights Information Network (CRIN) and is one of the 41 members of the Global March Organisation whose secretariat is based in India.

v  Has assisted women and girls in the dilemma of sexual abuse and domestic violence and also took part in the campaign for the domestic violence bill.

v  From a slim task force of about 3 officers, the organization now has 10 permanent staff members, 5 interns from various institutions of tertiary education, and 168 volunteer area and club coordinators in all its areas of operations.

v  The organization has managed to start income-generating projects for the livelihood sustenance of women and girls in its areas of operations.

v  Today the organization has 65 + clubs in its areas of operation.

v  Has a good relationship with organizations working on child protection as well as Gender and Women empowerment.

v  In 2007 DCI-Zimbabwe  with my leadership successfully hosted the first ever in Southern Africa, The Global March Against Child Labour 2007 a 541 km physical March from Harare to Plumtree
