Farmer’s Pride International Commits to President’s Call to Triple Agriculture’s GDP Contribution from 2% to 6%
Gaborone, Botswana – In a bold national call to action, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana has declared the urgent need to raise agriculture’s contribution to the GDP from the current 2% to at least 6% in the immediate term.
Responding to this vision, Farmer’s Pride International (FPI) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering transformative agricultural projects that drive economic diversification, job creation, and sustainable rural development.
"We see the President’s 6% GDP target not as an aspiration, but as a deliverable. Our Agriculture-Based Clusters will be the engine of this transformation."
— Elfas Mcloud Shangwa Zadzagomo (Hunter), President & Founder, Farmer’s Pride International
FPI Project Shortlisted Under BETP
FPI’s flagship initiative, "Transforming Botswana’s Agriculture and Rural Economies through Cluster-Based Smart Farming and Value Addition", has been officially shortlisted as one of Botswana’s high-impact projects under the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP).
The President and Founder of FPI, Hunter, is currently participating in the four-week BETP Lab process launched by the President of Botswana — a platform bringing together national and sectoral leaders to refine and fast-track the implementation of transformative projects.
FPI’s 6-Point Action Plan to Achieve the 6% GDP Goal
- Nationwide Agriculture-Based Clusters (ABCs) – Mobilising 50,000 farmers into coordinated value chains by 2027.
- High-Value Crop Expansion – Scaling Moringa, potatoes, sunflower, and horticulture for domestic and export markets.
- Agro-Industrial Processing – Establishing oil extraction, powder milling, packaging, and cold storage hubs.
- Climate-Smart Irrigation – Deploying renewable energy-powered irrigation systems for multi-cycle harvests.
- Export Market Integration – Securing long-term offtaker agreements under AfCFTA and SADC frameworks.
- Carbon Credit Revenue – Monetising agroforestry and Moringa’s carbon sequestration capacity.
Expected Impact by 2028
- GDP Growth: Agriculture’s share increased from 2% to 6%.
- Jobs Created: Over 300,000 new positions, 60% for women and youth.
- Farmer Incomes: 40–60% above current baselines.
