FIRST BETP MILESTONE ACHIEVED

BOTSWANA SECURES INAUGURAL MORINGA EXPORT ORDER TO GERMANY

Gaborone / Mmopane —

Farmer’s Pride International (FPI) has recorded its first officially recognised milestone under the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), implemented through Agriculture-Based Clusters (ABCs), following the confirmation of Botswana’s inaugural Purchase Order (PO) for export-grade Moringa to Germany, with delivery scheduled by end of February 2026.

This landmark achievement follows high-level engagements between FPI, an agricultural subsidiary of Hunter’s Global Network, and its Germany-based offtaker. The confirmed transaction formally activates Botswana’s Moringa sector as a BETP-aligned, export-ready value chain, transitioning decisively from pilot production into structured international trade anchored on compliance, quality assurance, and secured market access.

Under the BETP implementation framework, FPI has operationalised Agriculture-Based Clusters as the primary delivery mechanism, aggregating farmers, standardising production protocols, and integrating post-harvest infrastructure to meet European Union market requirements. The confirmed export order therefore stands as proof of execution, demonstrating how BETP translates national policy into jobs, exports, and rural industrialisation.

In response to the confirmed PO, FPI has launched a national export-preparedness programme targeting farmers with harvest-ready Moringa. The programme includes mandatory technical training covering:

  • Export-compliant harvesting protocols

  • Post-harvest handling and traceability systems

  • Drying technologies, including solar and hybrid systems, and on-farm dryer construction

  • Quality control, packaging, and storage standards for EU markets

To consolidate readiness, the German offtaker will arrive in Botswana on 15 February 2026 to lead a Moringa and Sengaparile (Devil’s Claw) Export Preparedness Workshop at the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN). The workshop will align producers, technicians, and logistics partners with buyer specifications, certification pathways, and shipment timelines for both Moringa and Devil’s Claw.

“This marks the first tangible output of FPI’s participation under BETP, delivered through Agriculture-Based Clusters,” an FPI representative stated. “It validates our model of structured cluster mobilisation, farmer training, local processing, and direct international market linkage, executed to globally accepted standards.”

Farmers with Moringa ready for harvesting are advised to register immediately with the FPI Office in Mmopane or through the Export Coordination Desk. Only trained, verified, and cluster-registered producers will be cleared to supply into the February export consignment.

Analysts describe this development as a strategic inflection point for Botswana’s agricultural sector, positioning Moringa, alongside Sengaparile (Devil’s Claw), as flagship export crops capable of generating employment, foreign exchange, and climate-resilient growth under BETP.

Further updates will be issued as Botswana advances toward its first-ever Moringa export shipment to Germany

This engagement is designed to ensure that Botswana’s producers meet EU market expectations from the very first shipment, setting a high benchmark for future exports.

4. Strategic Significance
This first shipment represents more than a commercial transaction. It is a proof-of-concept for Botswana’s export-led, climate-smart agriculture agenda, unlocking value across production, processing, logistics, and knowledge transfer. In my considered view, anchoring exports on Moringa’s full value chain—alongside Singaparile—positions Botswana to generate sustainable rural jobs, strengthen farmer incomes, and build long-term trade credibility in the European market.

All stakeholders are urged to treat this notice with the seriousness it deserves and to act promptly.
