MoU Signed

Shoshong, Botswana — A significant milestone has been reached in Botswana’s agricultural transformation agenda following the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Hunter’s Global Network, Farmer’s Pride International (FPI), and the Member of Parliament for Shoshong Constituency.

This landmark agreement formally launches Agriculture-Based Clusters (ABCs) in the constituency, anchored on Moringa Oleifera production clusters and structured Devil’s Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) harvesting systems, and confirms clear export commencement timelines.

Scope of the MoU and Implementation Framework

The MoU establishes a bankable, data-driven, and regenerative production-to-export framework, delivering:

  • Moringa Oleifera Clusters with standardized agronomy, aggregation protocols, and export readiness.

  • Devil’s Claw Sustainable Harvesting Programme, emphasizing harvesting of secondary tubers only, protection of mother plants, and long-term resource regeneration.

  • Research, Mapping, and Yield Intelligence, including plant counting, geo-referencing, and harvest estimation to support contracts, logistics, and financing.

  • Regenerative Agriculture and Land Rehabilitation, integrating soil restoration, water retention, biodiversity protection, and climate resilience.

From Leadership Commitment to Community Ownership

Implementation will proceed through structured engagement with traditional leaders, farmer groups, women-led enterprises, youth structures, and community institutions, prioritising inclusive participation, skills transfer through training-of-trainers, and durable rural employment creation.

National Alignment and Impact

The initiative aligns with national economic transformation priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), delivering outcomes in decent work, food security, climate action, and ecosystem restoration—while meeting international standards for ethical sourcing and traceability.

Next Steps

  • Immediate baseline assessments and farmer registration

  • Cluster structuring and training roll-out

  • Export execution: Moringa (end February); Devil’s Claw (end June)

  • Progressive expansion with additional community leaders and value-added pathways

Shoshong is now export-active, climate-smart, and market-ready—setting a national benchmark for Agriculture-Based Clusters in Botswana.

Confirmed Export Commencement

  • Moringa Oleifera Exports: Starting end of February
Aggregation, quality assurance, and traceability systems are aligned to international buyer specifications to ensure immediate market entry.

  • Devil’s Claw Exports: Starting end of June
Following completion of community-wide training on sustainable harvesting, resource mapping, and compliance verification.

These timelines mark the transition from planning to active, revenue-generating exports, positioning Shoshong as a dependable source of ethically produced, market-ready commodities.
